{"id":5076,"date":"2026-06-25T09:47:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T09:47:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/harmonie-vaals.nl\/blog\/?post_type=avada_portfolio&#038;p=5076"},"modified":"2026-06-25T09:48:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T09:48:15","slug":"noodlottige-reis-naar-mechelen","status":"publish","type":"avada_portfolio","link":"https:\/\/harmonie-vaals.nl\/blog\/Portfolio\/noodlottige-reis-naar-mechelen\/","title":{"rendered":"Noodlottige reis naar Mechelen 1885"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>De reis naar het festival in Mechelen op <strong>22 juni 1885<\/strong> wordt in de bronnen omschreven als een bijna noodlottige dag (&#8220;beinahe ein Verh\u00e4ngnisvoller&#8221;) voor de Caecilien-Harmonie vanwege een reeks incidenten met de feestwagen.<\/p>\n<p>Het verloop van de reis was als volgt:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Problemen bij vertrek:<\/strong> Al bij het wegrijden uit Vaals (in de toenmalige Gasse, de huidige Kerkstraat) ging het mis toen een van de paarden voor de wagen ten val kwam.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Defect in Vijlen:<\/strong> Nadat de reis was voortgezet, begaf het tuigage (&#8220;Zuggeschirr&#8221;) van de paarden het in Vijlen, wat ter plekke gerepareerd moest worden.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Het drama op de Vijlenerberg:<\/strong> Het gevaarlijkste moment vond plaats tijdens de afdaling van de Vijlenerberg. De koetsier wilde de rem aandraaien, maar draaide de verkeerde kant op, waardoor de <strong>rem volledig loskwam<\/strong>. De paarden konden de zware wagen niet meer houden en de koets denderde met enorme snelheid de berg af. De inzittenden hielden rekening met het ergste.<\/li>\n<li><strong>De redding:<\/strong> <strong>Johann Fanchamps<\/strong>, die onderaan de berg stond, zag de wagen naar beneden stormen. Hij handelde razendsnel, greep de teugels van de paarden en wist de wagen tot stilstand te brengen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hoewel de schrik bij de muzikanten groot was, vermeldt de kroniek dat er uiteindelijk <strong>geen gewonden<\/strong> zijn gevallen bij dit incident.
